The Old English “gōd spel,” (from gōd ‘good’ + spel ‘news’), became the slightly less old English “gōdspel,” which became what we know today as the “Gospel.”
This Gospel is the story of Jesus, the risen son of the living God. “Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us.” Which is why Christians speak of Jesus as God, come in the flesh.
The Bible is a collection of writings, or “books,” penned by about 40 men over the course of 1,500 – 2,000 years, that together, comprise the record of the relationship between the creator, Jehovah God, and his creation.
As a Christian, I believe that the Bible I hold in my hand today is the very word of God, divinely inspired, translated, and preserved through the ages without error. It is relevant, and directly applicable, to our lives and this modern, lost world in which we live.
