Libertarianism’s Limited Appeal

The problem with Libertarian thought is that you must be reasonably intelligent to grasp the basic concepts.

I do not know the minimum IQ required to “get” Libertarianism. However, 68% of all IQ test takers score somewhere between 85 – 115. Yet the number who identify as Libertarian is somewhere between 10% and 20% of the population. Additionally, the discovery that it’s the classical liberals (a.k.a. Libertarians) that improve the average IQ of conservatism, leads me to conclude that “above average” would certainly be included in the minimum requirements.

Conservatives dumb?

I do not for a minute believe the oft-repeated “latest study” that comes out like clockwork near election time “proving” that liberals are smart and conservatives are dumb.

These assaults on your intellect are textbook examples of corporate media whores attempting to sway your vote.

How many of your friends and family can actually grasp the mechanics behind the distortions of a socialist economy, and the damage such distortions do?

It is far easier for the dull mind to grasp at the notion of “free stuff” provided by government, paid for by taxing “the rich.” So, that is the schlock that the political class sells.

The Essence of Libertarianism

The non-aggression principle is the foundation of Libertarian ideals.

It’s hard to grasp, even among the above average minds who can comprehend Libertarian thought, and it’s foundational premise, the non-aggression principle. Perhaps it’s our penchant for over-complicating the simple things.

Don’t Hurt People, and Don’t Take their Stuff.

I can hear you now… “Well duh,”… But I would venture to say that very few have spent any time pondering the deeper implication behind these simple these principles.

Most people exhibit a “go along to get along” herd mentality that prevents them from even wondering what is outside the box, much less engaging in actual outside the box thinking.

Look around you, how many people who call themselves “conservative” or profess a desire for smaller government still harbor a belief that you can legislate prosperity?

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Samuel adams, 1776

I submit that the vast majority of Republicans are just as addicted to the unitary central state as the Democrats whom they accuse of communism. Americans have been embracing communism far longer than anyone would believe.

Every empire collapses. All it takes is for the indigenous population to produce a couple of generations of coddled, complacent, lazy offspring who are too fat and too incurious to seek the truth.

The United States have a grim future ahead.
